Kimono Silk Care 101

Here are some essential tips for caring for your beloved kimono silk panels. Follow these simple steps to keep them beautiful.

Storage:
NO direct sunlight, NO humidity, and NO heat. Fold them loosely in a breathable fabric bag or with acid-free tissue paper would be ideal. (All my listed fabrics are packed indivisually in a ziploc bag unsealed, ready to ship to its new home.)

Cleaning:
Spot clean with a mild detergent diluted in cold water. Gently dab the affected area, avoiding vigorous rubbing. For a thorough wash, submerge the panel in cold water with a little neutral detergent, rinse, and hang it to dry flat. Iron on a silk setting. If you made a big mess and got it stained, it's best to seek professional assistance. If the silk already has a spot, my silk are all vintage, I don’t think decades old spots would come out no matter what you do.

Prevention:
Protect your silk panels from harsh chemicals, perfumes, and sharp objects. Consider wearing a thin undergarment to minimize contact with perspiration and body oils if wearing silk. The body oil will become stains.

Regular Inspections:
Check for loose threads, weak spots, or discoloration. Address any issues promptly to prevent further damage.

Remember, your kimono silk panels are precious treasures. Treat them with care and follow these tips to keep them stunning!
